Although we have here followed the long tradition of connecting Saint Luke with Saint Paul, the seeker of Luke must be made aware that some Biblical scholars have concluded that the author of the Gospel of Luke was unfamiliar with the theology of Saint Paul and appears to have been writing from a perspective of a decade or more after Paul's death. This theory is derived from the theology and philosophy presented in the Gospel itself. It appears, according to these scholars, to have the most in common with the significantly more unified post-Pauline Christian world of the very late 1st century AD. Such scholarship also brings into question the authorship of the Gospel and of the Acts of the Apostles, given that Luke, the companion of Paul by Paul's own admission, could not have been unfamiliar with Paul's theology.
